Many students ask about “forwarding” their DYC email to their personal Yahoo or Gmail email addresses, because most people have a personal email account that they plan to continue to use in addition to their DYC address.

Even though forwarding services are not available on the D’Youville email server, you can still set up your Yahoo or Gmail email accounts to import your DYC email into those web-mail services.

First, you need to know the following 3 things about your DYC email account before you get started:

1. your DYC network username
2. your DYC network password
3. the D’Youville email server address for students, which is stumail.dyc.edu (the email server name is not the same for DYC staff)

The advantage to setting up your Yahoo or Gmail email accounts to import your DYC email is that you only have one webmail account to check. Since it is more convenient to check your DYC webmail this way, you’ll get your DYC email more regularly and keep up with the latest events on campus.

• 1. For Gmail users, log in and click on the Settings link in the top right corner of the screen.
  
• 2. Inside the Settings window, click on the link for the Accounts tab.
  
• 3. Click on the link to Add another email address.
  
• 4. Type your name in the first blank, and your complete DYC email address in the second blank.
  
• The example in the picture below is how a student named Pat Student might fill out the blanks in step 4 above.
  
• 5. Click on the button to Send Verification, then log into your DYC webmail to complete the verification process.
  
• 6. Confirm the verification by clicking the link in your DYC email (the one Gmail sent you) or type in the confirmation code in the blank.
  
• 7. Back in the Accounts tab, here at the bottom of the screen, click on the link to edit info for the new account you just set up.
  
• 8. Fill in the blank for POP Server with the address stumail.dyc.edu. The Port number is 110. NOTE: If you don’t plan to log directly into your DYC mail anymore, make sure the checkbox next to “Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server” is NOT checked, as shown in the example above—this will make it so that your DYC inbox doesn’t get too full. Make sure you click the Save Changes button.
  

Starting in June 2008, D’Youville students are being issued a username for the DYC network that is different than the style of usernames issued to students who have been registered at D’Youville prior to June 2008.

New students can use the login instructions that are available at any of the following locations:

• Academic Computing Services (BFC-008)
• Connections (Bauer Family Academic Center, first floor)
• Montante Family Library (circulation desk and reference desk)
• Computing & Network Services (Madonna Hall, room 103)

If you’re not sure what your DYC network user name or password is, stop in to our office (Bauer Family Academic Center, room BFC-008) with your photo id and talk to one of the staff, who will be glad to help you get logged in.

What can you log into with your DYC network username and password?

• college computers at the library, the computer labs, and computer classrooms
• the wireless network on campus (when you have a laptop with a WiFi network card)
• your DYC webmail (email) from any computer connected to the internet
• STACI from any computer connected to the internet

Important note: We strongly urge students to use strong passwords and to change them regularly to keep their account secure and their personal information private. If you have any questions about how to change your password, please ask at the help desk of the computer lab or in the office of Academic Computing Services.

Most of your computer and technology problems can be solved with the help of one of several different offices, so the college uses a single email address to take all requests, and then those requests are forwarded to the appropriate person. Please send all requests for help to helpdesk@dyc.edu.

Many college offices will only correspond with students via their DYC email addresses, so it is important to check your D’Youville webmail on a regular basis. If you haven’t already picked up your DYC email login information, come to BFC-008 with your DYC photo ID to get started.
