In our office, students often ask for help logging in to one of the college’s computer-based resources. It isn’t easy to remember so many passwords, but there’s no way around it: Different systems have different logins (just like you can’t use your car key in the front door of your house). Here’s a quick breakdown of some of those services, and how to log in to them.
WINDOWS COMPUTERS ON THE COLLEGE NETWORK:
Username:
-
“OLD” USERNAME FORMAT: For D’Youville students who started prior to June 2008, your username begins with a single digit (the last number of the year you FIRST became affiliated with the college, either as an applicant or a student), and then (up to) the first 6 letters of your last name, and then your first initial, for a (maximum) total of 8 characters. An exception to this is when more than one person enters the college system in the same year and have the same last name and first initial. When that happens, the network administrators have to find a way to make the username unique, and that is usually accomplished by using only 5 letters of the last name and then the first 2 letters of the first name.
“NEW” USERNAME FORMAT: For D’Youville students who started (or first applied or registered) in June 2008 through the present, your username begins with (up to) the first 5 letters of your last name, then your first initial, and then your 2-digit day of birth. (If you were born on July 1, for example, your username would end in “01″.
Passwords:
- Passwords for this service are created by the student and can be changed by the student at any time.
Resetting a password:
- If/when a student needs a password reset, they can a request from Academic Computing Services. Password resets are an overnight process, and the new password must be created on campus.
STACI (Student Access to Course Information) LOGIN:
Usernames:
- A student’s STACI username is the same as the student’s Student Number. The barcode on the back of the student’s DYC photo ID includes the student number, but has 2 extra digits. Drop the first and last digits of the barcode number, and that’s the student number.
Passwords:
Passwords are initially generated by the STACI system. When students pick up their STACI login forms, they are given instructions to change them to something that is easier to remember.
Password resets:
Due to privacy laws, these can only be handed out in person or mailed to the address the college has on file.
